ABOUT

Tara in Abstract is a Barbados-born, US-based photographer whose serene, minimalist images translate the chaos of the world into moments of wonder, tranquility, and playful abstraction. Raised on a small island where opportunity felt limited, she followed a traditional path into medicine, becoming a family physician, yet an undercurrent of curiosity and quiet rebellion always simmered beneath the surface. A challenge from her husband (“learn to use a camera before you buy a third one”) ignited an obsession with photography that quickly evolved into an unanticipated creative voice.

Growing uninspired by the trends of social media she adopted a spontaneous, curiosity-led process that stands in stark contrast to the order and control required in her medical practice. By relinquishing expectation and embracing serendipity, she discovered a visual language rooted in minimalism, vibrant yet restrained color, and the quiet beauty hidden in everyday scenes.

As her career has progressed, Tara’s distinctive vision has earned international recognition, including 1st place in the 2022 Minimalist Photography Awards (Landscape), working with National Geographic, features in publications such as PetaPixel, The Phoblographer, WhiteWall Magazine, On Landscape, and Lens Journal, as well as work exhibited in Belgium, Time Square/NYC and at SCOPE Art in Miami. Her work has been celebrated both in traditional photography circles and within web3 communities, most notably being named a “female photographer to watch”.

Her most recent work has transitioned to more self-reflective content, shown in the series’ “The Art of Letting Go” and “Evolution of Self”. At its core however, Tara’s practice is an ongoing act of turning personal reverence for the overlooked into timeless images that quietly remind viewers there is beauty everywhere, if one remains open and curious.
